Around 1900, cow milking was done manually. It required care and rhythm. It seems simple, but it takes skill. Test your milking skills on the 1st day of Pentecost in the Boerenbondsmuseum and become a cow milking champion!

Around 1900, milking cows was done entirely by hand, a labor-intensive process that often began at dawn. The farmer’s wife, sitting on a stool next to the cow, rested his or her head against the animal’s flank for stability and rhythm.
Milking had to be done carefully so as not to hurt the cow and to keep the milk flow efficient. On average, a cow yielded about 10 to 20 litres of milk per milking, depending on the breed and health.
When you see it, it seems very simple. But it’s harder than you think. Come and try it for yourself. And once you’ve got the hang of it, the trick is to get the milk into the bucket.
Young and old can come and prove themselves on the 1st day of Pentecost and try to become the cow milking champion of the Boerenbondsmuseum.
Music
The Rooi Tulips from Sint-Oedenrode are celebrating their 25th anniversary this year. And on the 1st day of Pentecost they will perform in the Boerenbondsmuseum. The choir consists of about 60 members and the oeuvre consists mainly of Dutch songs, both nostalgic sing-alongs and more recent songs. De Rooi Tulpen regularly perform in nursing homes and during festivals. The choir is accompanied by its own musicians and is led by conductor Erie van der Zanden.
